For those of you who don’t already know me, my name is Dean Sumpter and I am running for State Representative for the 52nd House District of Kentucky.
After my father retired from the Navy in 1996, my family returned home to Monticello, KY, where I attended Wayne County public schools from the first grade until 2008 when I graduated from Wayne County High School. I then attended the University of Kentucky where I played baseball for the national championship club team while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science.
Upon graduation in May 2012, I began working in a department store. Through hard work I moved up quickly to become the youngest department manager in the store. I was proud of what I had achieved but felt a calling to do more for others.
That’s when I decided to take the biggest risk of my life. I quit my job, moved back home, and began working as a College and Career Guide at Wayne County High School. As soon as I stepped foot in that school I knew that being there and helping students was what God had led me to do.
The call to help others is why, after spending some time at home, I decided to go back to school and get my master’s degree in teaching so that I can dedicate my life to educating our youth. That’s where I am today, taking classes for my degree, working at a job I love, and running for office to represent the 52nd District, the place I call home.
