Growing up, I was fortunate to be surrounded by proud public servants. My father, Terry Sumpter, retired from the United States Navy. My mother, Tammye Sumpter, retired this year as a Wayne County schoolteacher. And both my grandfathers, John Wesley Bowers and Odell Sumpter, supported their families by serving 26 years and 28 years in the United States Air Force. They made their dedication to public service look easy, and as a kid I took their sacrifices for granted.
But now our public institutions are under attack, and I can no longer just sit back and watch. That is why I decided to come back home and follow in the footsteps of my family by dedicating my life to serving my community as a teacher. This is also why I decided to run for State Representative in the 52nd District, so that I may represent you and protect these institutions. Every Kentuckian has the right to great education, quality healthcare, and economic opportunity. This is what I believe, and this is what I will work to achieve as your representative.
Public service is in my blood, but it is also in my heart. It is my sincere hope that you will let me serve you in Frankfort by electing me to be your representative on November 6th.
